Strawberry Whirls Cheesecake
My hubby is a huge strawberry whirl fan, thus I came up with a Dreamy Strawberry Whirls Cheesecake. If you don’t know what strawberry whirl is, it’s a Baker’s biscuit.
If you’ve lived in South Africa long enough you would about all the amazing biscuits, I have fond memories eating them since childhood.
Strawberry Whirls Cheesecake
I absolutely loved marie biscuits especially, I dunked it in a whole lot of cold milk and ate it with a spoon. A little soft and a little crunchy, yum! I don’t eat as much biscuits as I used to but my kids have certainly taken over.
Of course, my hubby loves anything sweet so another favorite of his is Royal Creams. Only I try to bake them myself every once in a while.
Ingredients for the Cheesecake
For this Strawberry Whirls Cheesecake I used Cream Cheese, Sour Cream, Double Cream Strawberry Cheesecake yogurt, the Danone brand, Sugar, Freeze Dried Strawberries, Tennis Biscuits, Strawberry Whirls biscuit and Agar Agar.
Of course, I decorated them with strawberry whirls biscuits and used half a packet of tennis biscuits for the base. The freeze dried strawberries gives the cheesecake that added strawberry flavor without the addition of any artificial colourants.
I didn’t add too much Agar Agar as I find often, when I do I add too much. I hate it when my stuff turns out all rubber like. With the amount I added for this cheesecake it had a mousse like texture which we loved.
Feel free to add a little more Agar Agar or you can use gelatin if you want a firm cheesecake. I also limited the amount of sugar so this cheesecake has quite a tart flavor. I hate overly sweet stuff so the amount of sugar was perfect. Here again you can increase it if you wish.
How to make the Cheesecake
It’s all mixed in one bowl. Not the biscuits. I added the Agar Agar straight into the wet ingredients and it worked perfectly well. It is a small cheesecake so I used a 20cm springform pan. It does feed at least 8 people, so not exactly that small.
Unless you want to serve huge portions this comfortably serves about 8. You can double the recipe if you wish.
How long does it take to set
I had mine in the fridge for 4 hours. You can leave it in the fridge overnight. We were quite impatient to try it so I doubt we would have survived the overnight wait.
It is absolutely delicious, every mouthful is just heavenly. It makes the perfect summer dessert.
Hope you love it as much as we do. If you do try this recipe please drop me a comment and a star rating, it is always appreciated.

- 1 packet strawberry whirls biscuits
- 50 gram butter melted
- 1/4 cup castor sugar
- 250 gram cream cheese room temperature
- 250 ml sour cream
- 1/2 cup double cream strawberry cheesecake yogurt
- 2 tbsp ground freeze dried strawberries
- 1&1/2 tsp agar agar
Instructions
- Line the bottom of a 20cm springform pan with parchment paper and set aside
- Place the tennis biscuits in a food processor and pulse until it resembles breadcrumbs. Add the melted butter and pulse until combined
- In a large bowl beat the cream cheese and sugar until smooth, add the sour cream and yogurt and mix until combined. Add the agar agar and ground freeze dried strawberries and mix until combined
- Press the tennis biscuits into the lined pan, use the back of a measuring cup to smooth it out
- Add half the cheesecake mixture into the pan. Place the strawberry whirls on the sides of the pan, the pretty side stuck to the walls of the pan. Pour the remaining mixture into pan.
- Cover with cling wrap and refrigerate for 4 hours or overnight
- Serve cold. You can top up with more strawberries when serving
Notes
- Although I used the Danone Double Cream Strawberry Cheesecake flavoured yogurt you can use any strawberry double cream yogurt or low fat if you prefer
- You can replace the agar agar with gelatin
- The sugar can be increased to 1/3 cup if you prefer a sweeter cheesecake
- Freeze dried strawberries can be found in most major supermarkets
- If you don't have strawberry whirls this cheesecake is great on it's own too
