Easy Penda Truffles
It has been a mission trying to work through my Diwali recipes the last couple of weeks, finally I got to do make these Penda Truffles. Gosh, I wish I had more time and more energy to create more.
I love doing what I do but I am finding it really hard keeping up with everything. I get requests for recipes all the time but please bare with me as I try and work through them all.
Easy Penda Truffles
Of late I have been feeling a little unusually fatigued. The fatigue is usually due to my Thyroid condition but I’ve always coped and kept busy to fight the fatigue. It is becoming harder to do that I must admit.
By evening I am totally fagged out and somedays feel like I want to collapse in bed by 6pm. But I am a mom so I just keep going. Let’s hope I am back to my usual self soon.
This is the usual Penda Recipe, however I dipped it in chocolate just to make it extra special and super rich…Lol! My hubby has a sweet tooth but not really a fan of too many sweetmeats or mithai as we should be calling it.
However, he loved this Penda Truffles. Coming from him that’s a good sign because he is the fussiest on the planet.
What is Penda?
It is very similar to Burfee, the difference is that the Penda is not cooked on the stovetop like Burfee. I love it because I am all for the no-fuss approach. So this recipe is just up my alley.
How to make the Penda Truffles
The butter and sugar are beaten until light and fluffy, then add the dry ingredients and mix well. Flavor the mixture, roll them into balls or whatever shape you prefer.
In this instance we went a step further and dipped it in some melted chocolate. Drizzled a bit more chocolate on top and there we have fancy Penda Truffles. Have you noticed just how fancy sweetmeats have become. I won’t get to that level of fanciness but I do like pretty stuff so will make them as pretty as I can.

Penda Truffles
Ingredients
- 50 gram butter room temperature
- 3 tbsp icing sugar
- 1&1/4 cup powdered milk
- 2 tbsp condensed milk
- 1/4 cup fresh cream
- 1/4 tsp rose essence see note 1
- 1/4 tsp ground cardamom/elachie
- 300 gram white chocolate for decorating
Instructions
- Use an electric mix or you can mix by hand, beat the butter and icing sugar until light and creamy
- Mix in the rose essence, condensed milk and fresh cream. Add the powdered milk and the cardamom and mix well into a soft dough
- Divide the dough into 20 pieces or however big you prefer. Roll it into round balls. Refrigerate for 30 minutes
- Melt 1/3 of each chocolate, 20 second increments in the microwave, in a small glass bowl. Mix until smooth, ensuring there are no lumps
- Using 2 teaspoons dip each ball into the melted chocolate and let the excess chocolate drip
- Place them on a tray lined with parchment paper. Once all the penda is covered with chocolate freeze for 20 minutes
- Remove from freezer and scrape off any excess chocolate from the bottom using a knife
- Add some melted chocolate to a disposable icing bag, snip a tiny hole at the bottom and drizzle chocolate from left to right over each ball. Sprinkle sparkle dust if you wish and place a sugar flower on top (this step is optional). Refrigerate until chocolate sets
Notes
- If you do not have rose essence at hand you can totally leave it out

What can the fresh cream be substituted with.
Thanks
Hi there! I haven’t used anything but cream. However, you can try milk as a substitute although the cream adds that extra creaminess.
Good day, thank yoy for the recipe. Can coffe/tee creamer powder be substituted for the powdered milk
Hi Mariska! No coffee creamer is not the same as powdered milk so I will not recommend it.To be honest I haven’t personally tried it.
