Today I was totally lost as to what to cook. Since I’ve been back I just haven’t had the motivation to do anything, I think I am just exhausted. Well, I didn’t have a choice but to cook. We could do takeout but I prefer a homecooked meal over takeout. The quality of food is just not great anymore. At least with my cooking I know what goes into it. In saying that I don’t often use packet stuff and marinades. I prefer making my own from scratch. However, someone gave me a whole lot of Nandos marinades and sauces….

Whilst I was away in Durban at my parents home my sister and I did a lot of cooking together. It was a great time to bond and share special moments. I miss her already. She is also a great cook and I enjoyed someone else cooking for me. That’s rare when I’m up in Johannesburg. Nobody ever cooks for me. Today I am sharing another dish that was really popular in our home. I remember eating this often in our home and as kids it was something we loved. This Kitchari with yellow split peas is a dish made with rice and yellow split pea dal and it is a comforting soup like dish.
